You can get through work and answer every message while barely holding yourself together. Some of what you carry is suffering you did not choose. Some may be sin you have tried to hide. Jesus, I brings that whole life before Christ. He knows the difference between a wound to be tended and a sin to be confessed. You need more than the strength to look okay. You need the Savior who died for sinners and rose again.
A reflection alongside Jesus, I from Volume 2.
Bring your suffering into the light
Psalm 34 calls us to fear the Lord, turn from evil, and take refuge in Him. Its promise of nearness to the brokenhearted sits beside an honest statement: the righteous suffer many afflictions. Trusting God does not make grief, exhaustion, or the need for care evidence of failed faith.
Tell the truth about what hurts. You do not have to call abuse good, blame yourself for someone else’s sin, or make your pain sound spiritual. Ask for help from trustworthy believers, and seek appropriate professional care when you need it. Receiving help does not compete with dependence on Christ.
Children of God through faith in Christ
John 1:12–13 tells us who receives the right to become God’s children: those who receive Christ and believe in His name. This life comes from God. Being wounded, listening to a worship song, or feeling understood does not by itself reconcile us to Him.
Our sin separates us from God, and we cannot repair that separation through effort or sincerity. Jesus gave His life for sinners and rose from the dead. Turn from sin and trust Him. Salvation is God’s gift, received by faith. If you belong to Christ, your welcome rests on Him, not on how composed or useful you managed to be today.
Depend on Him in the unfinished day
“I loosen my grip; I am rising in You” can be sung as dependence on Christ rather than confidence in our own recovery. His Spirit teaches His people to confess sin, obey His Word, and receive care. That work may continue while difficult circumstances remain.
Read Psalm 34 and John 1 together. Confess the sin that is yours without taking responsibility for harm done to you. Tell a trusted person where you need help. The next step is faith in Christ expressed in honesty and obedience, not a performance that proves you have recovered.
A prayer to carry
Lord Jesus, I cannot save myself or hold my life together by pretending. I trust Your death and resurrection. Forgive my sin, teach me to turn from it, and help me bring my suffering honestly before You. By Your Spirit, make me willing to obey Your Word and receive the care I need. Amen.
