Read the whole movement
Ephesians 2 begins with people who are dead in sin. The turn in the passage comes with God’s mercy and love. He makes alive those who were unable to give themselves life. The believer’s story begins with God acting in Christ.
This matters when we try to bargain with God. A successful week does not make us our own savior; a difficult week does not make Christ’s work less sufficient. We come to Him with repentance and faith because our hope rests in what He has done.
A gift that produces a new life
Verses 8–10 hold two truths together: salvation is a gift, and those created in Christ are made for good works. Pulling them apart creates confusion. We do not earn salvation by obedience, and we should not use grace to defend disobedience.
Titus 2 describes grace as teaching God’s people to renounce ungodliness and live differently while awaiting Christ. Grace trains us. It draws us out of the hiding places where we have protected sin and into a life of dependence on the Spirit.
Let the order shape today
Begin with gratitude for Jesus’ death and resurrection. Then name the obedience in front of you: a truthful conversation, a generous act, a refusal to repeat a harmful habit, or a request for help. Do it as someone depending on mercy, without trying to turn it into a claim upon God.
When you stumble, return to confession and trust. Receive correction without making your failures your identity. Christ is the foundation on which a changed life grows.

Father, thank You for mercy I could not earn. My hope is in Jesus Christ, who died for sins and rose again. Forgive my pride and my excuses. By Your Spirit, teach me to receive Your gift with faith and to obey You with gratitude. Amen.
