Good news about what Christ has done
Paul reminds the Corinthians of the message he received and passed on: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. The gospel rests on Jesus’ work, not our power to improve our lives.
The cross reveals the seriousness of sin and the greatness of God’s mercy. The resurrection means death did not have the final word over Jesus. The Savior proclaimed by the apostles is alive.
Grace received through faith
Ephesians 2 describes salvation as God’s gift, received through faith, rather than wages earned by good works. No one can boast that they made themselves alive before God. The same passage says we are created in Christ for good works. Obedience follows the gift; it does not purchase it.
Jesus calls people to repent and believe the good news. Respond by turning to Him, trusting His death and resurrection, and learning to follow Him. An emotional moment or a repeated phrase is no substitute for faith in the living Christ.
